Between shaving, waxing, or sugaring, removing unwanted hair is a chore. Not to mention, expensive, when you consider the costs of razors, waxing or sugaring materials to get the job done. But what if you could say goodbye to unwanted hair for good with laser hair removal?

This is the time of year when we fantasize about escaping the cold to sunnier destinations. It's also the time of year we recommit to our wellness goals - whether that be toning up, making dietary changes, or implementing new habits that set us up for success. Whether you're planning a sunny escape or simply ready to toss the razor out for good, now is the time to get a jump start on laser hair removal.

As one of our top-recommended services to undergo during the winter months, there is a lot of buzz and of course, a few myths surrounding laser hair removal. "It's too expensive," "I can't not shave between treatments" or, "It's not safe for my skin type," are common objections we hear when discussing laser hair removal options with clients. Let's debunk five popular hair removal myths to set the record straight once and for all.

Myth #1: It's too expensive. FALSE! (and the girl math to prove it's not...)

You may be shocked to learn that the average woman who waxes twice a month spends nearly $34,000 over the course of her lifetime to manage unwanted hair - you read that right, $34K! If you opt for shaving, the number is lower, but still a substantial $9,600 over the course of a lifetime. This does not factor in the time and effort needed to drive to appointments, tackle unwanted hair at home, or additional supplies needed to manage things like unwanted razor burns or ingrown hairs.

The alternative? Women are increasingly turning to more permanent laser treatments to make a difference. On average, our clients see hair reduction in as little as three (3) sessions; however, we recommend a six (6) treatment series to ensure unwanted hair is kept at bay for good. The cost varies by the areas you are looking to treat (i.e. Brazilian area vs. full body) but you can expect to pay anywhere from $200+ for single, small area sessions to $1,000+ for full body sessions. It's an investment with long-lasting results and will have you saying "Why didn't I do this sooner?!"

Myth #2: Your hair will grow back thicker. FALSE!

Picture this: smooth, silky skin that lasts longer than a Netflix binge. Contrary to popular belief, laser hair removal doesn't cause your hair to grow back thicker at all! In reality, it works its magic by reducing hair density and giving you the gift of hair-free moments that last and last. So, say hello to smoother skin and goodbye to those stubborn hairs.

Myth #3: It is not safe for darker skin tones. FALSE!

Safety first, right? The key to laser hair removal being safe and effective for all skin types lies in the laser and technology used. Enter dual-wavelength lasers—think of them as your BFFs in the laser world. These beauties, like Alexandrite for lighter skin tones and YAG for darker skin tones, ensure that your skin gets the love and care it deserves, no matter your shade.

Myth #4: You shouldn't shave between laser hair removal sessions. FALSE!

Here's the scoop on shaving between laser sessions: it's a must-do, not a don't-do! Grab that razor and get rid of pesky hairs because shaving actually weakens the hair follicle, making the laser's job a whole lot easier. Do not wax, sugar, or pluck while undergoing laser hair removal. And, refrain from using depilatory creams (like Veet or Nair) as they will render the laser ineffective. This is because depilatory creams are designed to remove unwanted hair from the skin's surface and contain ingredients, such as thioglycolic acid or calcium thioglycolate, which break down the protein structure of the hair, allowing it to be easily wiped away from the skin. For the laser to work there needs to be a hair follicle present, so keep that razor handy.

Myth #5: All laser devices are equal. FALSE!

Not all heroes wear capes, and not all laser devices are created equal. Some lasers out there might look the part but fall short in the hair removal department. Beware of imposters using IPL or diode technologies—great for other skin treatments but not your go-to for long-lasting smoothness. For those dreamy, hair-free results, opt for a true-state laser that promises to deliver nothing short of skin that's as smooth as silk.

By busting these five laser hair removal myths, you're one step closer to embracing the magic of smooth, hair-free skin. Did you find these myths interesting?
