Aloe Vera Gel

You know her, love her, and trust her with all your skin concerns. When she's not debunking products, working with clients, or capturing behind-the-scenes content as Starlight's social media maven, Raquel loves to find an at-home remedy for any skin trouble.

When she recently experienced an acne flareup and winter weather left her skin severely dehydrated, Raquel mixed up one of her trusty DIY concoctions to soothe her skin. Of course, it features a Starlight Skin favourite product. Are you surprised?

Introducing Raquel's DIY Aloe Vera Mask ft. Argan Glow

Using just two simple ingredients, you can give Raquel's at-home Aloe Vera mask at home a go if your skin is irritated, experiencing an acne flareup, or needing an extra wash of hydration. Here's what you'll need:

  1. A cut of an Aloe Vera plant (you can buy this from most grocery stores in the produce section)

  2. Starlight Skin Argan Glow

How to Make Raquel's At-Home Mask

  1. Cut and skin the Aloe Vera plant and remove the inner gel-like material. Discard the skin.

  2. Using a high-powered blender (or immersion blender,) pulse the gel until you have a smooth consistency.

  3. Add a few drops of Argan Glow for vitamin E and a boost of extra hydration.

  4. Combine and leave in the fridge for a cooling and soothing effect on the skin.

  5. Apply to the skin using a clean fan brush. Leave on for up to an hour and rinse with warm water. Follow up with your favourite Starlight moisturizer.

Aloe Vera: A Beauty Secret as Old as Time

Aloe Vera has graced the counters of those looking to preserve their beauty across millennia. Called "the plant of immortality" by the Egyptians and used by Nefertiti and Cleopatra, several other cultures, like Greece, India, Mexico, Japan, and China, found medicinal uses for Aloe Vera.

Aloe Vera contains many minerals, vitamins, amino acids, and enzymes your skin craves. Known to combat inflammation, it also stimulates collagen production, is incredibly hydrating, and is anti-microbial, meaning it's safe and beneficial for acne-prone skin types.

The synergy between Aloe Vera and Starlight Skin's Argan Glow results in a powerful duo that deeply hydrates, soothes, and rejuvenates the skin.

Skin Benefits of Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera contains 75 potentially active components, including vitamins, enzymes, minerals, salicylic acids and amino acids.

  1. Vitamins: Aloe Vera contains vitamins A (beta-carotene), C and E, which are antioxidants. It also contains vitamin B12, folic acid, and choline.

  2. Enzymes: It contains eight enzymes: aliiase, alkaline phosphatase, amylase, bradykinase, carboxypeptidase, catalase, cellulase, lipase, and peroxidase. Bradykinase helps to reduce excessive inflammation when applied to the skin topically, while others help break down sugars and fats.

  3. Minerals: It provides calcium, chromium, copper, selenium, magnesium, manganese, potassium, sodium and zinc. They are essential for the proper function of various enzyme systems in different metabolic pathways, and few are even antioxidants.

  4. Fatty acids: Aloe Vera contains four plant steroids: cholesterol, campesterol, β-sitosterol and lupeol. All these have anti-inflammatory action, and lupeol possesses antiseptic (bacteria-killing) and analgesic (pain-relieving) properties.

  5. Hormones: Auxins and gibberellins help in wound healing and have anti-inflammatory action.

  6. Others: It provides 20 of the 22 human required amino acids and seven of the eight essential amino acids. It also contains salicylic acid, which possesses anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. Lignin, an inert substance, when included in topical preparations, enhances the penetrative effect of the other ingredients into the skin.

As Aloe Vera is deeply rich in vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and antioxidants, it is a potent moisturizer. It nourishes the skin, restores its natural balance, and improves elasticity, leaving it soft, supple, and rejuvenated.

In addition to its moisturizing prowess, aloe vera offers soothing and healing properties that can benefit various skin concerns. It calms inflammation, reduces redness, and relieves irritation, making it a go-to ingredient for sensitive or sunburnt skin. Aloe vera also possesses healing qualities that repair and regenerate damaged skin. Its natural enzymes help to remove dead skin cells, promoting a healthy and renewed complexion. It also aids in fading scars and promoting faster wound healing, making it suitable for acne-prone or blemished skin.

Aloe Vera and Starlight Skin's Argan Glow are a match made in heaven for a number of skincare woes. While Aloe Vera moisturizes, soothes, and heals the skin, Argan Glow enhances these benefits and provides an additional layer of hydration for dry skin. Together, they form a dynamic duo that nourishes, rejuvenates, and protects your skin, leaving you with a radiant complexion.
